19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive play style and recurring outbursts on court had caused some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
